About Us

A Legacy of Good Coffee Since 1892

Maxwell House has been a beloved part of American mornings for over 130 years, consistently delivering quality coffee that’s “Good to the Last Drop.” Our journey began in 1892 when Joel Cheek, a coffee enthusiast and entrepreneur, developed a special blend of coffee that would soon become a household name.

Our Humble Beginnings

Joel Cheek partnered with Roger Nolley Smith, a British coffee taster, to create a smooth, balanced blend that would set a new standard for coffee quality. They convinced the prestigious Maxwell House Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee, to serve their coffee exclusively. The hotel’s guests were so impressed that the blend quickly became famous as the “Maxwell House Coffee.”

In 1907, Theodore Roosevelt, then President of the United States, visited the Maxwell House Hotel. After finishing a cup of our coffee, he reportedly exclaimed that it was “Good to the last drop!” This phrase became our slogan and has been associated with Maxwell House ever since.

At Maxwell House, our mission is simple yet profound: to provide high-quality, great-tasting coffee that brings comfort and joy to people’s daily lives. We strive to:
